PAA- Affiliation & Future Conferences
College Art Association
The College Art Association meets yearly in different cities. It has a number of official affiliated organizations that meet at the College Art Association annual conferences. At the PAA Executive Board meeting in Chicago February 28, 2001, it was decided that PAA will secure a formal affiliation with CAA. This will provide PAA with an opportunity to meet yearly at the conferences. Also it will guarantee a session on Pacific arts at the conference. If you have any questions about the College Art Association they also have a website with information. The mailing address is 275 Seventh Avenue, New York, New York 10001 USA.
Call for papers
The College Art Association meetings for 2002 will take place in Philadelphia, February 20-23. A panel titled "Biography, the Written Word, and Pacific Artists: Multivalent Views of History and the Individual" will be chaired by Hilary Scothorn and Karen Stevenson. Paper proposals are due by May 14th. Contact Hilary HilaryLS@aol.com or Karen k.stevenson@fina.canterbury.ac.nz for more information.
PAA Special Publications
It was suggested that PAA explore the possibility of publishing a series of small booklets on a variety of subjects and art traditions. The Executive Board discussed this subject in Bremen and again in Chicago and would like to know if any member is interested in coordinating this type of project and exploring funding and grant opportunities. Please contact a member of the PAA Executive Board if you are interested in helping.
Letter to Bishop Museum, Honolulu
A letter was sent to the American Association of Museums, the International Council of Museums, the Pacific Islands Museum Association, and Board and Director of Bishop Museum expressing PAA’s concern over recent policy changes at Bishop. The letter was acknowledged, but no direct response to our concerns was received. Recently, Bishop Museum’s AAM accreditation was renewed. We remain attentive to the situation at the museum and will continue to monitor it.
Bylaws to be Revised
The Executive Board members are currently reviewing PAA’s bylaws. Members may submit concerns or suggestions to any of the three vice-presidents. The current bylaws can be found on the ‘About PAA’ page of the web site or contact Secretary Eric Kjellgren for a copy.
