Institute of Archaeology of New Caledonia and the Pacific
Instituted in 2010
Noumea, New Caledonia

The Institute of Archaeology of New Caledonia and the Pacific has a board, composed of representatives of the Provinces and of the New Caledonian government as well as one representative of the Senate of High Chiefs. The board makes the decisions about the overall objectives of the Institute, along six main missions that have been given to the Institute at its creation. Dr. Christophe Sand has been chosen as the first director. He will conduct the administrative work of a director. The Institute's team is now composed of eight archaeologists, and we hope to enroll another two people fulltime before the end of the year. The organization has been moved into a new building, with good working space, just at the edge of the town of Noumea. There is enough money this year to have a nice field program.
