 <title>Cantor Arts Center Appoints PAA Member Dr. Barbara Thompson</title>

 <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Cantor Arts Center Appoints New Curator for the Arts of Africa and the Americas&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University announces the appointment of Dr. Barbara Thompson as the new Phyllis Wattis Curator for the Arts of Africa and the Americas. Her work begins at the Center on September 2, 2008. &amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;
The National Gallery of Australia today announced the appointment of Dr Michael Gunn to the newly created position of Senior Curator, Pacific Arts. &lt;br /&gt;
&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;
Dr Gunn joins the National Gallery of Australia from Missouri, America where he has been Associate Curator, Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas at the Saint Louis Art Museum since 1999.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;

Govett Brewster Art Gallery, New Plymouth, New Zealand &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/b&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/b&gt;&lt;b&gt; &lt;/b&gt;The solo performance entitled &lt;b&gt;Taualuga; the last dance&lt;/b&gt; was first performed at the 4th AsiaPacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in 2002 with the Pasifika Divas performance art collective. Since then &lt;b&gt;Shigeyuki Kihara&lt;/b&gt; has developed the &lt;b&gt;Taualuga&lt;/b&gt; further by exploring indigenous Samoan belief systems while silmutaneously commenting on New Zealand&#039;s history and presence in the South Pacific region.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;/b&gt;&lt;b&gt; Mus&amp;eacute;e des Beaux-Arts de Chartres,&lt;/b&gt;&lt;b&gt; Chartres, France&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
There are almost 300 pieces on view from French museums and institutions as well as from Tahiti &amp;amp; Neuchatel and of course a large group of art works from private collections. Many of these pieces are being shown in public for the first time. A group of early illustrations by Max Radiguet (artist on the Dupetit-Thouars expedition) and Ernest Goupil (the artist for the Dumont d&#039;Urville expedition) are included in the show. A catalogue is being published with over 225 illustrations.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A selection of works from the Fa&#039;a fafine series 2005 recently aquired by the Auckland Art Gallery, New Zealand will accompany the &#039;Samoa Contemporary&#039; exhibition.&lt;br /&gt;

PAA is an affiliate society of the College Art Association (CAA), the primary national professional organization in the United States whose members are committed to excellence in the practice, teaching, and research of and about art, art history, and related disciplines. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As an affiliated society, PAA may sponsor one proposal for a 2&amp;frac12; hour regular session at the Annual Conference. The Annual Conference Committee will consider a PAA-sponsored session proposal, along with the other submissions it receives, on the basis of merit.&lt;br /&gt;
